LSU TE Mason Taylor (actually) shakes Baton Rouge with catch vs. Alabama

It was a very good weekend to be an LSU fan and a part of the Taylor household. 

LSU freshman tight finish Mason Taylor, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor and nephew of “Speak” co-host Joy Taylor, was the hero for the No. 10 Tigers of their gorgeous upset of No. 6 Alabama in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Saturday. 

Mason caught a vital landing go from LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels late within the fourth quarter, then snagged the game-winning two-point conversion in additional time after first-year Tigers head coach Brian Kelly elected to go for the win. It marked the primary time the Tigers have crushed their SEC rivals at house since 2010.

The catch and ensuing bedlam and discipline storm shook Tigers Stadium — actually. The jubilation of Tigers followers brought on minor tremors to register on the LSU science faculty’s in-house seismograph.

And whereas watching from afar, Mason’s aunt Joy shared in that jubilation – as did Speak co-host Emmanuel Acho.

“Sorry to the people in the bar I was at – actually, I’m not sorry at all,” Joy mentioned. “I was going crazy… I cried my lashes off. Auntie was losing her mind.”

Co-host David Helman, an LSU graduate himself, identified that Mason Taylor’s title will eternally be recognized in Baton Rouge. Mason’s aunt agreed.

“That’s really an amazing moment,” Joy mentioned. “That’s an all-time [memory], like for the rest of your life. You beat Alabama.”

The win despatched the Tigers up eight spots within the AP Poll to No. 7, their greatest rating since they began No. 6 in 2020.

LSU, having fun with a surprisingly resurgent first season below Kelly, appears poised to maneuver additional up within the College Football Playoff Rankings when the subsequent version of the checklist is unveiled Tuesday.
