Putin won’t attend G-20 in Bali, Indonesian minister says


SINGAPORE — Russian President Vladimir Putin won’t be attending the Group of 20 summit in Indonesia subsequent week, an Indonesian minister mentioned Thursday. Russia shall be represented on the summit as an alternative by its international minister, Sergey Lavrov, who walked out of G-20 international ministers assembly in July following criticism of Russia.

“Putin will not attend because he has already said that he’ll be sending his foreign minister,” Indonesia’s coordinating minister for maritime and funding affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, informed reporters in Bali. “I think that is the highest [Russian official who will attend].”

The information, first reported by CNBC Indonesia, was confirmed to The Washington Post by Pandjaitan’s deputy, and ends months of hypothesis over whether or not the G-20 assembly would deliver Putin and President Biden collectively for his or her first face-to-face assembly for the reason that Russian invasion of Ukraine.
